The fascia board is the long, straight board that runs along the lower edge of the roof. The fascia is fixed directly to the roof trusses and usually does all the work of supporting the bottom row of tiles and carrying all the guttering. This is no mean feat, especially when it is raining hard. In a downpour, the roof of a 3-bed semi could be washing several gallons of water per second into its gutters.
The Soffit serves both an aesthetic and functional purpose for a building’s roofing system. It’s the skin that covers your eaves – without it, you would see your rafter beams fully exposed. Cover it up with the style and colour you desire to give your home an instant uplift. Functionally speaking, the soffit protects your rafters from the weather elements. If your rafters are exposed, you will likely have mould build-up and rotting beams which can prove very costly and is a health hazard.
If you want your home to be protected against potential water damage you need to have good quality fascias, soffits and bargeboards – all integral parts of UPVC roofline. Too many property owners persist with their old timber cladding and come to regret it as timber very easily rots and once your cladding starts to rot there isn’t much you can do to repair it. There is always the temptation to try and fit capping boards over rotting timber fascias to save money, but they very rarely last and once the rotting timber becomes re-exposed to the weather the problem can quickly get worse. It’s much better in the long-term to commission a full replacement as then you won’t need to be so concerned about it.
When it comes to home maintenance, you need to make sure your guttering is in good repair as it’s a critical part of it. Guttering sluices water off your roof, directing it down the drain and into the sewers. Over time, however, leaves can get blown into the guttering and moss can start growing inside it. If the gutters aren’t cleaned then a build-up of material in them can lead to damage. In turn, water will build up and there’s a chance that it will get in to your home – possibly leading to structural damage, damp and health issues as a result of these problems. In this case, it may be necessary to replace the guttering.
We offer four different types of UPVC water and waste drainage systems for your home. All are available in different colour options and styles, with coordinating accessories for a complete look. All our guttering systems are supplied by the same manufacturer – Eurocell – which means all colours are exactly matched across the product range.
